Wake, a short film by Atsuko Hirayanagi ’12 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) has been nominated for five awards at the Singapore Short Film Awards 2011. There is a total of 11 awards at the Singapore Short Film Awards, recognizing excellence in short films made in Singapore.

Wake is about Mike, a demolition site inspector who goes about his mundane and lonely life when one day, he discovers a corpse in the bed of an apartment he was inspecting. At the dead man's wake, Mike tries to reconnect the dead man with his son, by delivering a gift left behind by the dead man. Reminded of his own strained family ties, Mike attempts to make a phone call he has been afraid of making for many years...

“I’m so happy that people will watch Wake! The inspiration came from a news article I had come across seven years ago in Japan and I'm so lucky to have found such a talented community at Tisch Asia to collaborate with on Wake. I am very glad that the story has found audience in Singapore, where the story was adapted and shot.” Says Atsuko.

We wish Wake our very best at the upcoming Singapore Short Film Awards!
