Producing for Film

H68.2104   Lecture   2 Credits

This course will equip the student with the knowledge and practice of financing and producing the independent film.  We will examine the result of picking a strong script that leads to strong cast attachments and the “packaging” of the project for financiers.  The proper package includes: script, lead cast, producer, director, schedule, budget and cash flow, which is then submitted to financiers and guarantors.  In the independent film world, scripts are never financed, but packages are.  Students will learn how to pitch and create a marketable package.  We will be concentrating on non-studio lower budget films and will include analysis of micro or “no” budget films in the $100,000-$2,000,000 dollar range as well as industry financed low budget films, defined as between the $2-6 million dollar range, and independent non-studio productions falling into the $6-20 million dollar range.
