Her Love Story in Sichuan

Since leaving Tisch School of the Arts Asia, Gu Qiao’ 10 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) has been writing, producing and directing her thesis film, Her Love Story, a feature-length film.

Her Love Story is a coming-of-age story about Ye Jiangli, a 17-year old girl living in the small city of Sichuan. Just before her college entrance examination, love enters Jiangli’s life, bringing with it a couple of twists and turns. Jiangli is faced with the dilemma of being in love and going against the wishes of her family amidst the hardships of life in Sichuan.

Qiao shot the film in the Sichuan province, her hometown, over a four-week period. Qiao collaborated with her fellow classmates on her maiden feature film attempt.

Fifteen crewmembers from China joined Qiao’s production.

Currently, Qiao is in Singapore for the post-production of the film. On completion, Qiao intends to send the films to various international film festivals. Qiao has hopes for her film to be distributed worldwide, including China. While finishing her film, Qiao is also working with other writers on three feature film scripts in both English and Mandarin. She is also working on the adaptation of popular Chinese novels and has plans to work for a film company in Singapore.
