Dynamic Environments for the Day after Tomorrow
ANDA-GT 2141. Credits
This course covers topics that are beyond the traditional idea of what animation and digital-art can do. The students will develop creative concepts that use animation and animation aesthetics in public spaces that are outside the screening room or art museum. The class will be provided one public space, for which the project has to be designed for. The project itself has to have a working concept with an intellectual framework that goes beyond pure visuals. An example would be the Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the task of creating an exciting interior that turns the space through animation and digital art into a breathing organism or plays with the idea of recreating in the huge hotel-space a three-dimensional installation of an old arcade game like Donkey Kong. Students will develop a project that reaches beyond what is presently doable and explore ideas that are not just for tomorrow but the day after tomorrow as well. The goal of the class is to spur the imagination and creativity of the students and channel their fantastical ideas into a logical project. The students will finalize one concept in the group and work on design, aesthetics, usability, technical constraints and presentation. Drawings, paintings, texts and film-clips will explore the possibilities of the project and illustrate the content in a final presentation. Ultimately the project will be documented in a presentable portfolio.
