Directing Projects: Commercial Production
H68.2247 Studio 2 Credits
This course explores the art, craft and business of directing commercials. With an intensive opening 6 weeks, a director moves through the unique creative process of concept, script, storyboards, pitch, and pre production for commercial production. Each student will then direct one 30-second spec commercial and spend two weeks cutting and finishing this piece into a polished broadcast quality commercial spot. Through the prism of this very short format, directors will be asked to define their voice and point of view and learn to express themselves succinctly. We further examine the “world of advertising” and ways that film production and advertising intersect and cross-pollinate. With the focus on each student’s particular assets and interests as filmmakers, we will discuss short, medium and long-term career strategies.
