Animation track / Production

This class teaches the basics of the design process in animation. During the semester we will focus on the various directions of design and how to express the content of the story and script through visuals. We will explore creativity and how to approach and streamline the entire design process in order to create many variations and designs. The students will be provided a story/poem that they have to design the characters and environments for.The goal of the class is to create designs for characters and environments that are for the use in animation, thus the students have to follow certain rules that are industry standard. Throughout the homework assignments we will stay away from realistic design in order to understand the meaning of ‘shape’ and it’s impact on the character’s personality. Aside from multiple drawing exercises we will use Photoshop in the final stages of the designs. The students are of course free to use other techniques to produce a design that is usable for animation. Assignments are on a weekly basis.
