Theater Finance and Organizational Structure

H28.0278   Lecture   4 Credits

In this course, we endeavor to familiarize ourselves with the fundamentals of how not-for-profit and commercial theater ventures are structured while exploring individual companies' organizational structures to gain insights into how those fundamentals can be molded to suit the situation. First, we look at key job positions, boards of trustees, artistic policies, funding, marketing, and mission statements of the non-profit world. Then we dissect the commercial theater production world by examining the phenomenon of choosing a property, starting a company, raising capital, navigating union dynamics, and long running shows and tours.
