Tisch alumni continued their winning streak during the 2010 awards season. Oscars and Independent Spirit Awards were bestowed upon Tisch alumni in the Kanbar Institute of Film and Television for their cinematic achievements.

Tisch School of the Arts’ alumnus Geoffrey Fletcher '99 (MFA, Kanbar, Film) scored an Oscar for Adapted Screenplay for Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, as well as an Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay for the same film.

Fletcher was joined by fellow Kanbar Institute alumni Juan Jose Campanella '78 (MFA, Kanbar, Film), who received the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, El secreto de sus ojos; and at the Independent Spirit Awards, Joel Coen '78 (BFA, Kanbar, F&TV) took home the Robert Altman Award for A Serious Man.
